House Mice (Mus Musculus)

House mice are perhaps the most successful animal in the planet. If you believe humans are animals than house mice will be the  second most successful. The reason for their success is quite simple, they thrive in human-impacted environments. That is why they are called commensal rodents. Commensal derives from a Latin word that means table. So literally, house mice are commensal rodents (like Norway rats (Rattus norvegicus)) because they share our table.
