I recently reviewed A Rat is a Pig is a Dog is a Boy by attorney Wesley J. Smith on Amazon.com. If the title sounds familiar, it may be because the quote, “A Rat is a Pig is a Dog is a Boy” was allegedly stated by Ingrid Newkirk, the founder of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Whether you are support or oppose animal rights, Smith’s discussion of the social and ethical issues involved in the debate are necessary reading. His statements will, at minimum, refine one’s position providing important critiques of the animal rights movement, or as I like to call it, the animal rights protest industry. The animal rights movement and the ideology it espouses poses a significant threat to the dignity of humans and therefore threatens human rights. While the animal rights activists continue to claim that animal rights supports human rights, history shows differently as Attorney Smith ably shows.
