Did you know that pocket gopher mounds on slopes have a particular characteristic? When pocket gopher mounds build mounds on sloped ground, they typically will have the lateral tunnel plug on the higher side of the mound. It makes sense, it is easier to let the excavated slide down hill than to push it up hill. Identifying the location of the lateral tunnel and its plug is essential to trap placement and locating the main tunnel for application of toxicants.
